heading towards completion.

This keeps happening every time i try to install the plug in OSGexporter to export in .ive file format. What am i doing wrong?!

For some reason, when I put my skatepark animation into BuildAR, the floor of the skatepark goes missing. However, all the colours also seem to be missing, perhaps it's a good thing because otherwise, the interior would appear completely black.
Now just waiting for my video to completely render! :)

element skateboard advertisement.

and again..

after editing some of the not-so-good photos out...

a whole 1% more synthy!!

my next skateboard model.

this produced a better synthy of 79%...but when I looked at the point cloud, only the behind of her showed. The photos of her front were not very successful.

So i tried again...

This time, I spent so much time taking the front of her that the back of her didnt show up.
Nooo! However, even with a lower synthy of 65%, this point cloud (of only half her body and skateboard) is clearer than the back half of her and the skateboard in the 79% synthy.

trying to use light.

I encountered some problems when I experimented with lighting. For starters, its much more difficult to get the perfect lighting than it seemed in the tutorial or as it would have originally seemed. But the main problem was that I wanted to start with a target spot light and gradually turn it into an omni light and then back to target spot in my animation. However, I seem to be unable to control different lights in different stages of the animation. I can only (at the moment anyway) put one light on for the entire animation.

poor synthy and point cloud.

lights.

tutorial to freeze in 3ds max.

still need to try to see if this means the animation can freeze in buildAR.

photosynth problem.

So I've been trying to photosynth my skateboard. Even though the synthy wasn't that great, I thought I'd put it into meshlab just for the fun of it before I take more pictures and try again. However, when I'm up to the photosynth toolkit part, right after I make a new folder on my desktop and say yes to downloading thumbs, this thing pops up and nothing works :( . why?!

hmm.

the ugly blue box.

So I just tried to use my animations in BuildAR .... They're all just showing up as this same ugly blue box. It's not really that ugly.
Anyways. So I'm thinking it's probably time to sit down with some tutorials. yay!.

disappointment.- then relief!

This animation was the best one I've done so far! I learnt my lesson from last time and put the camera exactly where I wanted it. Also, I got so most of the cars moving as opposed to just two. I did this by pressing set key after every change I made to the position of each car instead of changing all the cars and then setting the key. However, the orange car is still stubborn and wont move!

Anyway, for some reason, some of the mapping files or something were missing and I think that might be why this video is currently not playing for me. I thought I'd upload it to youtube regardless just to see if maybe miraculously it would just start working once I embedded it.

Even if it doesnt work, here it is!

_______________________________________________________________

IT WORKS! :)
Okay, so I hope the improvement is evident in this video. My only complaint now is that my position in this video appears to be further away from the animation than it seemed when I made the animation in 3ds max...
Maybe next time I should just position my camera even closer than where I want the final product.

next attempt.

I was really smart and left my camera in the wrong position so this clip doesnt show exactly what I wanted it to. Oh well.

frustration making an animation!

So im trying to create my first environment. It is a city environment with trees, people, roads, buildings and cars. Things start to grow upwards to build up the environment bit by bit.
However, now, I'm trying to animate the movement of each car along the roads. I'm trying to move about ten cars at the same time and every time I try, only two of the cars move. Why?!?!
I'll post up a video once its completed rendering to show what I mean.

animations.

At first I thought 3ds max would be pretty annoying to do animations on because after you render the video, I thought it would get rid of your animation.
However, it turns out that it actually does save your animation with the 3dsmaxdesign scene file. This is super helpful because now I don't have to do the animation all in one go, and also if my computer crashes from the craziness of the animation, it's a relief to think that the animation I made might still be there.

The only one thing that I would change is that I would have liked it more if the markers still showed so that I knew exactly where and what I had animated earlier.
Oh well...

practising animations.

This was my first attempt at exporting an animation. It seems simple enough at the moment, but I can see how large animations can create problems and take a long time to render.

I stuffed up this animation, because I accidentally left the top of the buildings showing at the very beginning, even before the trees and people come into the animation.

new proposal.

This assignment will incorporate the developed skills we have experimented with over the last two weeks in order to present a Design Presentation based on a skateboard. The aim of this assignment is to explore methods of future design presentations through providing an insightful and thought-provoking art installation. Research material based on the concept or further development of skills should be evident on your blog.

In this project, an object which can be identified with a range of individuals and environments, such as a chair or skateboard should be chosen and photogrametrically reconstructed (using modeling skills to help refine your model to the most efficient printing arrangement), alter the model as suits your puroposes and get a 3D print of your model. Using that as a basis for your project you will then go through the design process, “designing” a variety of environments to demonstrate the concept through the object printed.
This work will be displayed at an exhibition during O-week and consequently, you will need to consider how your project can be displayed in an exhibition setting. This assignment will require an integration of what is made possible using Photosynth, Meshlab, 3ds Max, Sketchup and BuildAR. These programs will assist in producing a 3D printed model, an installation for the audience to interact with using a webcam and a prepared video presented as an advertisement for the object to display.

The idea of the assignment will be to “Mash-Up” a range of physical and digital processes into a Conceptual Art Installation for display at the final exhibition.

Assessment Criteria
Have thought and care been invested into all aspects of the design process in context to the technology you have experimented with throughout the course, including a noticeable attempt to engage with the technology in a creative way.
Blog: Is your blog neatly laid out and easy to follow, with all task requirements posted to your blog?
Images: Are your images of an acceptable quality, showing thought and consideration to image selection and camera framing? Are all images not your own referenced
correctly?
Text: Is any text you have written concise and informative? Is the text significant to
your project, outlining aspects of your process that may not be immediately
apparent through visual material?
Installation: Does your installation work? Is there a novel approach to the interaction between real life and digital content?

change of plans.

I apologise sincerely but I have decided to completely change my concept and overall product. In order to make my final project more interactive, I have decided to use a real life skateboard instead of only in a video. I have pretty much changed my concept for an art installation / social commentary thing into an advertisement for a skateboard.
I will create about three different environments using three markers. When the person stands on the skateboard, they will look at the marker they have chosen and freeze the camera position so that the environment produced by the marker stays around them and they can look freely around them and skate around.

My assignment focuses upon Augmented Reality and will no longer touch on photogrammetry.
I will post up a new brief soon.
